That is a Ruby Throated Hummingbird also, They move a certain way or the light hits them a certain way and their throad is red.

We have a coy pond in the back yard (see photo in daily snapshot/carry out) I have seen humming birds land on the lily pads and get a drink of water. Have never seen that before this Summer's drought. Never had the camera handy.

Hi Michaelangelo,
It was stunned, it flew into the window and knocked himself out for a few minutes. I actually thought it was dying, but after about five minutes he was looking better. I took him outside for the photos, an instant after this one he took off and flew into the woods. Happy ending to what I thought was going to be a sad story.

Nice shot , I had one similar a few years back, flew into the window, stunned and I got to hold him for a few minutes. Hummers just departed the South Jersey area for winter, last one at my feeders was on the 18th, 22nd of September is the latest I have had them here.

Don, all the hummers that left South Jersey and everywhere else in between are now feeding in my yard. I now have 10 feeders up and that includes 2 poultry water containers full of sugar water for all my feathered guests.

I forget, do they migrate any further south, or should I say, do you have them thru the winter? I do know they return to South Jersey, at least the males are first to arrive usually around 19-22nd of April each year.

About 10 years ago, there was a huge storm here in Austin and I must have had 20 to 50 Humming Birds land in my backyard, out on the patio, all sitting on my sons weight bench. It was really neat, everytime there was a crack of lightning they would hover for a couple of seconds in the air and then sit back down. They were out there for about 2 hours.
