from your new picture the possibility is better that its old, it seems to be weathered and pitted some on the one side there, but still your picture isn't showing it in all views, wondering why its whiter on bottom (patina?) I would imagine it to be mississippian do you have any provenance at all for it?

thank you for the replies, i have no provenance, some years ago a friend ttraded some silver buttons some tourquoise bracelets and the bird, all native american related and old...i will post some more pictures soon,3;20 am here lol...

bird

i noticed the white where it got rubbed sometime so i rubbed it a little more and the black comes off, i guess it is a fake after all...oh well ..thanks

still would like to see a different view or 2 on it. but yeah if you have something rubbing off it could be fake patina or something. I don't buy or sell artifacts but a lot of people assume that I do because I have have displays at my place of business and folks know I hunt. I have people stopping in trying to sell to me here and there. Guy came in not long ago and asked if I dealt in indian artifacts, i told him no but i do know some folks that do and gave him their number like i usually do, but we got to talking and he collects something i thought was peculiar. He collects fakes, such as your effigy (if it is fake), he didn't seem to collect a lot of flintknapped material or reproductions sounded more into hardstone stuff faked by money grubbers. I have his # if you might wanna sell that.

after rubbing,probably fake i guess...
