I found this today at the logging camp that my mother grew up at. Coopers Camp in Thurston County WA. It was about 8 inches down in some kind of wood and metal box that had rotted away by the old well., the spring and drive mechanism seem to be intact though full of rust. It cleaned up pretty good just by washing it off and you can still see that most of it is covered by black paint on the side that had been down. The rear wheels even still turn.

It appears to be all cast iron except for the drive stuff, and the cow catcher is broken off. In large letters on the side of the cab is the word BING .

This was the only thing that I found that I kept, as the rest of the place was full of old steel cable pieces and junk.

Hope the pic works.

That is a really neat find! Was the wind-up key with it, near by? Was there anything left of the box it was in? That box could have been the original box it was purchased in. There may be something left of it where you can read the exact model number or manufacture date or something. It's probably a 30's era toy or maybe a bit earlier, my guess.

I'll see what I can find out about the "Bing" on it :)

What else have you found out at the cabin?

Ebay has so much stuff :) The box was in pieces, the corners were held together by some kind of metal and it had jsut rusted to pieces. There was no key in the area. This site at one time had 10 of the old train style bunkhouses on it and was abandoned finally around 1945. Mom showed me two houses close to here that were originally a bunkhouse on train wheels, really strange looking, about 10 ft wide and 25 or so ft long..

Man now that's relic digging! Love htem old cast iron toys. Most of the ones I find are in bits and pieces. Beautiful!

That is a nice find. It will be interesting to see what else comes out of that site. Keep us informed and thanks for the pic. Joe

What an awesome find! Thats one I wouldn't part with. I am train enthusiast and would love to find an old toy train. I would definately put it on display!

I haven't checked yet, but I think ths item dates closer to the turn of the century 1900-1915. Definately a rare find!

That is one awesome find!!!
I wouldn't mind buying the one on ebay, hard to believe how cheap it's going for...
I consider stuff like that priceless... WTG!

Super find.....Don't clean it too hard. Don't want to take any more of the original paint off. You are better off having the rust than taking off the old paint. Like Rod said any pieces of the old box that is left is a plus.

Nice Find. I would buy the one on E-Bay and then you could replicate some parts or find them and make two working units if yours isn't too far gone. Way to go. HH
