Bills in Cerculation

I've never checked the dates on paper money but I will notice it next time. Monty

Most of the bills I see these days are no more than 5 years old. Every now and then I see one from 1995-1999. Finding a bill more than 10 years old is a notable event.

The Pizza Hut delivery guy gave me a 1988-A $1 in change last week. It's the oldest bill I've seen in years! Since the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the agency that makes bills, estimates the lifespan of a $1 bill as 18 months, it's amazing that this one made an appearance after almost two decades. I suspect it was stuffed in a piggy bank most of that time.

Although I don't look for old paper money often, I found all of these in circulation in the past year:

1 - 1934C $20 Federal Reserve Note (FRN)
2 - 1990 $20 FRN
1 - 1950A $10 FRN
1 - 1950E $10 FRN
1 - 1963A $10 FRN
1 - 1974 $10 FRN
1 - 1981 $10 FRN
1 - 1990 $10 FRN
2 - 1985 $5 FRN
3 - 1988A $5 FRN
As many as I want - 1976 $2 FRN <-- common
a couple dozen 1995 $1 FRN
1 - 1999 $1 Star Note
1 - 1976 $2 Star Note
2 - 1999 $10 Star Note

I also could have had a 1993 $50 bill but it was quite ripped and in terrible shape.

Basically if you ever want the older bills, just ask the teller at the bank if they have any of the old small head bills. They have them semi frequently, but usually not in great quantity, 1 here, 1 there and more frequently for bills above $20 in my experience. Usually they aren't worth more than face value since they are usually so beat up, but they are older. I also regularly find 1996 $20 FRN.

sience we talk about the money .. what is the differens between Read Seal and Black Seal ???

Used to find more when I managed a video store back in the 80s. These are just the pre-1970's:

1935D $1 silver certificate
1957 $1 silver certificate
1928F $2 silver certificate
1928E $5 US Note
1963 $5 US Note
1969C $5 FRN
1950 $10 FRN
1950D $10 FRN
1969 $10 FRN
1969A $10 FRN
1934A $20 FRN
1950A $20 FRN
1963A $20 FRN
1969 $20 FRN
1969C $20 FRN
1969A $50 FRN
1950B $100 FRN
1969A $100 FRN
1969C $100 FRN

Most of these I sold on eBay for decent premiums over face. I work with lots of cash and run across old ones now and then. Just today I found a 1981 $1 FRN but haven't found any red or blue seals in many years.

Got a 1985 $1 FRN today. Not in great shape, but its still the oldest $1 bill I have seen in some time in circulation

Back in September, I got four red seal $2's at the bank. They were 1928-D, two 1928-F, and 1928-G.
