Detector(s) used
Tesoro
We might never find out what this is. But I found this rock (also have a smaller one). It isn't really a rock, it feels hallow and is very light about the weight of 3 or 4 quarters. My detector gives a strong reading on it, and even my pinpointer picks it up. I know it's not a hotrock because pinpointers don't detect those. On one side no detecting, on the other a strong signal. I broke it open and there is a black and gray inside. Now that it's broken it doesn't give off anymore detection it just vanished. I had thought a coin might be inside of it for some reason. It was hard to break, had to use a flathead screw diver and a hammer to get inside of it, a hammer alone wouldn't break it. Any ideas?

Have you felt ill since you broke it open and released the radon? :D :D

Seriously though, try detecting the ground around where you broke it open.
I found something similar, and when I broke it, the pieces gave no signal.
Which was odd til I found another rock which was inside of it. It 'escaped" when I broke the big one.

I broke it open on the front porch so it couldn't run away. It must have been a ghost.

It looks and sounds like you found a piece of coke.
Coke is the solid carbonaceous material derived from destructive distillation of low-ash, low-sulfur bituminous coal. Cokes from coal are grey, hard, and porous.

There might have been some rusty iron residues in the dirt coating, which fell away when you bust it open.

Looks like foundry slag, but I dont know why it wouldnt continue to send a signal :icon_scratch:

I'm going with the coke. Just not a Pepsi guy. :headbang:

It would have been common around every blacksmith shop and farm forge. Could have had some slag on one side from the forge.

Why would the signal disappear :icon_scratch:?

I found both pieces across the street from an old general store that was in business around 1890 - 1910.
Which is a school now and it was in the woods with lots of old broken bottles. I guess it's possible that where the school is, used to be a blacksmith shop?

It's probably Coke

You de-magnatized it when you hit it with metal object.

I hate when that happens.

Does the smaller rock produce a signal?

Yeah the smaller rock gives a strong signal on both the detector and the pinpointer. I haven't broke it open its still intact. Is coke rock worth anything?

Depends on the amount you get caught with or how its packaged.

I may be wrong here but I think that is called crack rock. :D
