Its toast. I probably made it worse, but I'd like to know what it is.

Found it about 6" down in the middle of an old creek along side my friends farm.

I can see some patterning around the inside edge, the edge itself is smooth. I swear there are some letters there. Anyone recognize it?

Also found this in the creek bank nearby:

Only covered about 10 yards of the creek. Lots more to go. Should probably wait for the poison oak to die out.

I would soak that in olive oil or ketchup for a few days and then take a wooden toothpick to it. ...

My guess is that it is a token or foreign coin. Your right on it being very toasted. Mexican ?

....Found that Taco Bell hot sauce packets are convenient (need no refrigeration) and effective on copper !
I guess I could request some "mild" packets to try on toasteds, but those coins ain't getting my Fire sauce!...:angry4::angry4::angry4::laughing7::laughing7:

Maybe a two cent piece?

Two cent pieces are 23mm, and nickels are 21.21mm.

Congrats on a cool old piece!

It looks similar, though the 1 Pfenning coins are smaller than a nickel, and the OP's is bigger. Maybe another similar German coin?

What is the measurement of the coin?

Good point, plus being that crusty it might just be a token.

That makes sense, probably to most likely thing it is. Many tokens were made out of very tinny and low quality alloys, and didn't hold up well. It looks like pretty toasted, so unless you risk damaging it by rubbing it vigorously with a brush, it may be impossible to solve know sure. They made a lot of different tokens in the 1800's and early 1900's, it might even be a hard times token if the op is lucky! Cool find! I love finding mystery coins/tokens!

Coinman, in your enhancement I think I see a lion and unicorn on the sides, like the British royal coat of arms. -But I could just be seeing things as well.

I have around 50 pounds of 1700's and 1800's copper coins up in my room that I bought at 25 cents each from my local coin shop over the course of five years. Maybe it is worth comparing some of mine to it?

The crown on the OP's coin looks a little too small to be this, but it has a coat of arms.

The design is similar to this, but the poster's coin is much older.

This reeding on the OP's coin looks a little different, but the coin is very similar!

I'm not sure, it could be any old coin with a crown on the top, you just need to find one with the same shape and size to know for sure. Unfortunately it was very common to have crowns on coins. I found a toasted copper with a crown that I was able to ID as an 1861 New Brunswick half cent.

I enhanced the other side, and I think I see a bust, very similar to a King George II bust. Maybe a farthing which is just a tiny bit bigger than a nickel. I have to admit, the OP's coin looks very much like an 1800's Foreign coin. The beading and sharpness off the edge reminds me a lot of machine made coins, minted in Europe between 1840-1900.
