Have to send a big thank you to hutsite digger who was very generous to my son and I yesterday before the superbowl when we met to dig out a hutsite or two. Never having dug one myself, he was patient in explaining all the details of what to look for and how to proceed. We ended up finding five buttons, a couple of bullets and roundballs and what I think is the cover to a pocket watch. It was a lot of fun, great new experience and I hope we're able to do it again soon! Thanks again HSD!

I think you are right, looks like a pocket watch cover to me.

That is what relic hunting is about. Building friendships and nice relics!:coffee2:

Hey no problemo's Digger.. Had a blast with you all yesterday :smileinbox: and plan on getting up with you again very shortly for another dig session!!! :occasion14: :occasion14:

Nice to have friends like Hutsitedigger - great finds

Very nice relics DV. That's an ornate cover. HSD apparently knows how to bring those relics back into the sunshine. . HH, Quindy.

Nice job helping out a digging newbie. Now he's hooked like the rest of us.

DiggerVet and his son aren't newbies they have been detecting for quite some time now, they just aren't experts on finding hut sites or what to look for,etc , even expert relic hunters will turn into noobs when first starting out with hut sites, it is completely different than free roaming and it takes years of experience as you know to be able to eye ball the soil, dig test holes and probing too be able to correctly and understand the soil but the payout is great, kinda hard to think that there are US/CS buckles, buttons you're walking over and not even know it because there 3-5 feet in the ground! :occasion14:

Ok. Here's a question. What's a hut site? Is this an old abandoned home which of course isn't standing anymore?

It's what the soldiers lived in during long term camps up to 1-2 months:

Congrats on the hut site relics, you never know what might come out of a hut. Very nice of HSD to take you guys out deep digging!

The only sites we'd have here are from old calvary. I wouldn't mind stumbling on some. It's just now they probably have normal campsite over area.
