DAY 1
It was windy and cold, but the ground had thawed so I went back to the middle school to see if I could break my precious metal slump. No luck.
I spent 5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 42 coins with a face value of $2.26 a big stone ring, a marked earring, a flattened owl kiddie ring, a modern buttton, part of a zipper, an ace bandage clip, some aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, 76 tabs and 7 pencil ends.
The earring is an old clip on style that says NOLAN MILLER on the inside. Just good costume jewelry nothing precious unfortunately. The ring is marked as well. It is hard to read, but I believe it says CLAIRE’S so mass produced cheapie.
DAY 2
I went back to the set of ball fields where I have been finding old buttons and stirrups. I did some hunting around the edges of the gravel parking area and a loose grid on a section I haven’t covered before.
I sent 5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 77 coins with a face value of $4.38, 3 and 1/3 toy cars, a toy helicopter, a CHARGA-PLATE, 2 earrings, a necklace, 4 unfired hollow point slugs, a cheapie ring, a 2013 graduation tassel embellishment, a monopoly game tab, bottle caps, cans and slaw, aluminum tent pegs and large scout camp type tent pegs (pegs came from an area used as a paintball arena and the pegs were used to hold down the objects that made up the course) as well as 17 tabs.
I found the earrings on the edge of the parking area. I thought they might be silver, but they are unmarked and don’t quite look right for silver. Darn, my slump continues. The bullets are unfired hollow point slugs and were found grouped together in the gravel on the edge of the parking lot.
The Charga-Plate is from Rosenbaum’s Department Store in Cumberland. They opened in 1899 and closed in 1971. The Charga-Plate was the precursor of the charge card. They were used from the 1930s to the 1950s. It is in a plastic sleeve and it was stuck in pretty good. I had to cut the sleeve along the edge to remove the card. Originally I believe there was a signature card on the back that has long since rotted away. You can see the crimped edges on the back that would have held the card. This is a first for me and probably the best finds of the day.
DAY 3 and DAY 4 didn’t happen because of snow and ice storms that hit and covered all of my hunting areas. More clad, some interesting finds and of course, fun, fresh air and exercise. Everything a 74 year old man could ask for (almost LOL). It looks like more snow and ice and very cold temps next week so probably no hunting. In about 10 days we head to Florida to visit family so 5 or 6 days of beach hunting with no freezing to worry about yeah.
NON DETECTOR FINDS
Not much this week. I found a penny on the floor at the market and a dime in the coin return at Wally World, nothing from the vending machines or coinstars.
Thank for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
