Folks,
So I got out to the deserted 1800's house again and I think it is now officially my favorite site so far. I always find lots of coins, relics and something I don't know what it is.
I took my lawnmower along and slowly cut back the three foot high weeds and grass. It worked well. At the end of the hunting time the owner stopped in to see what I was finding. He was shocked to say the least. He said the owners were 'tightwads' (his words) and he'd be surprised if I found a single modern coin. I showed him my finds and he was impressed. He showed me around the property and told me where certain things used to be. He also gave me a tip about a neighbor whose father passed away and had lots of military gear (he did not specify what this included). He said the father died rather quickly once he got sick but that the children think he squirreled away the stuff. I gave him my card and told him I would help out if they wanted assistance in finding the stuff.
In one hole I found 23 spent .22 shells, all within about 2 square inches.
Also, I found a bunch of artifacts. The spoon says Wm. A. Rogers Silver Nickel. It was already broken in the hole (probably why it was discarded). The cap says, 'Ponds.' There's an old hose nozzle, some buckle-like objects, an aluminum? 10 cent piece of play money, a decorative leaf and a locket-like object. I found one of these at another place and it looks almost identical. On the back there are four little clips that hold the back and front together. After scanning the pictures I took it apart and there is a felt-like material inside. Any thoughts on what it is? It is either copper or brass.
Peace,
T-man

I also had my first 'two gun day' or perhaps I should say, '1.5 gun day.' The half gun says, 'Texas' and has a 'T' and a longhorn on the handle. The other gun says, 'Derringer' on the barrel and has an 'H' on the handle.
I found a bunch of wheats (oldest was 1911), a 1943 Mercury dime and a 1942 WL Silver Half, my third Walking Silver Half in my detecting career.
As you can see, the soil is kind of rough on the coppers.
The silver half was a very choppy signal. It was no deeper than most of the other coins (probably 6"-7") but was very broken in sound. It had just enough warble to make me think it was a coin. I certainly did not think it was silver and definitely not a large silver. But there it was. I later found a nail and aluminum? button close to the coin so perhaps that is what was making the sound a bit strange.
I also found a fob or medallion. It is corroded but has an eagle on the front but no words that I can make out. It still has the leather strap attached although it is torn.
On the back it simply says, 'Genuine Bronze.'

Well, happy hunting everyone. Perhaps I can get a few minutes or my lunch break to hit the place again tomorrow.Peace,
