Today in San Francisco I met up with Ken who I met on treasurenet. We started our day at a small playground and only found some clad after two hours worth of hunting. So we left and headed for a spot that I had drived by at least 50 times. I've always wanted to hunt this spot but some of my hunting partners said it was a waste of time. It is a dirt medium strip that's about 500 feet long and about 20 feet wide on one of the main drags in S.F. Right off the bat I started finding wheat pennies, that's always a good sign. First silver coin was a 1944-P merc, second one was a 1960-D rosie, and my big surprise was a 1942-S Liberty Walking Half Dollar! It was about 5 inches deep. Total wheat pennies for the day in this dirt strip was 14. Also got two sterling silver religious medals in the same hole, both were attached together. Ken got a silver ring but had to leave early.

Those are some amazing finds there Cool Hand Fluke! :notworthy:

Way to think "outside the box"!

I also believe that those grass strips along the sides of the sidewalks
and the medians in the middle of the road hold potential!

Great photo's of the finds, nice post! :icon_thumright:

As a fellow San Francisco hunter I gotta say: Nice Job!!!
There is so much turf in SF that you know it hasn't all been hunted.
Great job on finding a new patch of turf to hunt.
And big congratulations on getting the big silver! I love it when people find and rescue the big silver!
:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Also dug up this cool Oregon token!

Nice haul and congrats on the silver! HH, Mike

Hey Mike! Thanks so much for a great time. You certainly taught me to think outside of the box and go to places I would not have thought to search. Good haul. Look forward to hunting again soon.
Ken

damn! that is one productive strip!!!!! the half is super sweet but the silver medal is the coolest thing in my opinion ;D :headbang:

with the 1906 earhquake and all the rubble from it * anywhere in SF is likely to have good stuff in the ground --coins were silver and gold back then. :icon_thumright:

Good job on the silver and finds, you never now until you start swinging the coil, good call :icon_thumright: !

Seems like that sometimes the obvious is so obvious that no one considers it! Kind of like the gorgeous girl that is so lonely because every guy takes one look at her and says to himself "she'll never date me" and no one ever asks her out. :laughing7:

Congrats on the finds in an area that most would not attempt..........great finds by the way!

Nice finds and good idea to hunt a spot like that. I love hunting those overlooked areas. You never know what you can find in places like that. Happy hunting.

Bob
