Metal Detecting
I went out detecting early this morning hoping to beat the heat. I hunted a site that we’ve been working, but went to a different section of the woods this time. I got a way too good to be true signal but it had a bit of a crunchy sound to it. I switched over to all metal mode on the Equinox which allowed me to clearly hear the iron that was right next to this beauty.

I haven’t found a half dollar in two years so this was indeed a welcome find!

Very nice large silver, congrats! :occasion14:

Another Mass hunter strikes- awesome find- great coin design and 2nd year of issue- Congrats!

sweet! I love all walkers but love to see the early ones pop up

Love the sound those big silvers make... literally “music to my ears” lol... Gorgeous coin there, I’ve only got one myself, found it over five years ago and haven’t sniffed one out since. Great score... Ddf.

As already mentioned - Walker's are fantastic looking coins but you don't see that many real old ones found.
From what I've seen at least 8 out 10 dug have 1940's dates - of course this is due to the mintage numbers increasing over the later years.
All of my Walker's (7 total) have 1940's dates - except for one that's dated 1917 like yours.
I was lucky - the 1917 is in the best condition of all of them.

Good Hunting !

Nice save on the Walker half. Glad you could sniff that out of the iron as you did. Wtg!

Nice! 1917 was a year full of history, all those boys in those trenches fighting a needless war...

Nice find! Congrats!

Nice!!! That big silver is in the ground in Massachusetts for sure. I dug 3 walkers last year, 2 in mass and one in NH. Great job brother

Probably my favorite U.S. coin, and that one is a beauty. Congrats!

Nice job Mike, I'm sure there are still treasures up there despite the hours we've spent. Glad to see a half finally come out

Steve, it was right next to iron so it had a bit of a “crackle” to it. I though that it was a folded up piece of aluminum at first. Very easy to miss, even for a half dollar.

Nothing like the sound of a silver half dollar under your coil. Great find, and an oldie to boot. Congrats !
