Any guesses on what it could be without having a scale?? I can def make out some kind of ridge detail on one edge but nothing else! Pretty excited about this one! Although it rang up an 86 , could a big piece of copper passingly do the same thing?? Found about 8 inches deep in a now empty lot in an old section downtown along with two toasted wheats 1944 and 194 something pretty beat up. There was tons and tons of trash so gonna have to keep cleaning it out to separate more targets. Just soaking it water right now but would like to hear any gentle household cleaning tips aside from real electrolysis that anyone might have. Silver I've found here can either look brand new or I've had a dime look as black and crusty as this once as well so would like to take it very slow to keep my hopes up for maybee my first large silver coin!! Lol !! Anyway thanks for any, and all help you can provide!! I will gladly get any other info needed about it if I can. I am still pretty ignorant in the world of coins! Thanks for looking and giving me a place to rant! Dig it all!

So excited I forgot the pictures lol---

If I'm on track here, I've found several of those as well. They all came up high as well. The one thing that told me it wasn't much to look forward to was: does it bend semi-easily? I've taken a lot of these out while relic hunting the original Union Pacific Railroad areas. I've gone as far as to dip them in muriatic acid to seed if it revealed anything....with no luck. A buddy of mine that's been relic hunting for over 35 years told me they were junk, probably from the bottom of a can. No idea how accurate that may be.

No it doesn't bend at all for me but it's looking more and more like some kind of copper disk but I can definatly see some kind of detail along the edge? Could just be a really thick token or commemorative business coin-- Ive been doing short sessions of aluminum foil +washing powder and so far it's getting better but not enough to make out that edge or any detail yet. More to follow ... Stand by.....

Too large for Large Cent (Copper)? Largest coin in circumference I have found thus far was a large cent, early 1800's.

This is what it looks like now after five or six times in that hot aluminum foil bath-- I doubt if it'll be anything of value but at least I'm getting some experience with this technique! If anyone happens to see anything other than a copper top battery end lol by all means chime in either way I'm gonna just keep pecking away with toothpick and bathing it till it looks shiny lol! Keep swingin!!
