Hey Guys,

Ive been getting out and digging alot this past week or two and I was able to get a few keepers along with a really nice and BIG 42lb. Cannonball. This ball is a solid shot, and as you can imagine, it was quite a task to get it up and out of the hole and back to the truck. The hardest part is getting it out of the ground, it is so heavy that you cannot simply pull it straight out but have to use your shovel in a co-ordinated effort. Once out, I held it on the front of my shoulder just above my collar bone and was able to hike it out like that, coming back for my gear. I've dug alot of Civil War and colonial relics in this area over the years, but a piece this big is still a beautiful thing to pull out of the ground. I also managed a Seated Half Dime out of the old road bed as well as a clipped pistareen about ten feet off the road bed at the base of a pine tree but it came out in good shape despite this due to the sandy soil. Thanks for looking HH

Congratulations!!

Awesome finds. It sounds like you got a real workout with that cannonball. BTW, I love the last cannonball photo--it looks like a telescope photo of the moon!

Great finds and you're one heck of a photographer as well..

Thought you had left. Welcome back mate:icon_thumright:

Josh, Great save, well worth the effort, 42 pounder. I haven't found anything over 3, I do like finding them. The silver is icing on the 42 pound cake... Art

That's one big ball you dug up, with the two silvers it really puts the icing on for a great hunt!

This may sound stupid, but do you sell it for scrap or keep it?

I have a really stupid (newbie) question... how do you tell if it's solid or if it has explosive/powder in it?

Great finds Josh. Did the cannonball give you a deep high tone or did it actually sound like deep iron?

Josh!!!I need to get over and see you,Jeff, and Roger!!

Great digs!!!!!!!!!!!
