Not really a "what is it" but more of a age and type of bell question? There are no markings and I'm pretty sure it's a cattle bell. Any one seen one like it? I'm thinking 1930's-1950's maybe?

Looks like a larger version of the Crotal bells found in the USA...for animals...1800's? Except, I am positive that I have never seen a bottom that was saw slit before. That seems very odd, and not very durable?

Here are typical ones from my area. These had a cast slot across the bottom. These have much smaller loops, and I suppose a huge heavy one would need that big loop for a leather strap?

Thanks for the input. I dug many old crotal bells to compare it too but this one is odd. Top half looks like the typical old ones but the bottom half looks strange.

A pair of similar bells I dug up where an old barn once stood, one even had a remnant of a leather strap through the hole when I found it; like most of those bells we find they were on animalsImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1453767678.363274.webp

From what I can find online they are called large "Swedish" style horse sleigh bells. So you are right. I wouldn't doubt a single saddle rider may have used them on a harness or something also! [emoji2]
