ACOJoe and I decided to go out for about an hour to one of our gang's favorite spots just around the corner. No idea how many cool finds have come out of here, but we always joke that there can't be anything left.

Found a few wheats and started working a really steep slope that I've avoided in the past. Got a solid tone that rang off as a new quarter, wasn't expecting much, Joe wasn't even sure it was a coin. When a Seated half dollar came out of the ground I couldn't believe it. A few minutes later I picked up a Barber dime:

Looks like it's going to be a great year!

Nice old silver! Still waiting for my first this year...

Seems like you've a nice spot for hunting. Too bad the seated has a hole in it, but still a great find.

Nice finds! And just another lesson in "search everywhere!" Thanks for posting.

Most coin collectors would call that coin damaged. For a metal detector find right out of the ground, I say that coin has character. If it was mine I'd keep it forever. MA delivers again! You live in a great detecting state. Gary

Nice going on the two silvers, especially from a well known friendly site.

Way to go Steve! I'm in a seated coin drought, so I'm very jealous of your seated half. What a beautiful coin. Congrats!
The fact that you plucked it off a steep hillside makes sense. I'm guessing that very few ( if any) fellow detectorists took the time and energy to search there.

I'd say that's a great way to start your detecting year. Congrats on two very nice coins.

I still can't believe that you two actually worked that hill side; so steep! That's one heck of a way to start the year though, congratulations!

Congrats,

The seated half has eluded my coil. Not a easy coin to find.

Just ran into an old timer a few weeks back with a similar story. Except his was a 1830 bust half in like AU shape.

You just never really know when a great find is going to turn up.

Jer

Sounds like your going off of the beaten path, paid off. Your post provides insight to a lot of us, hunt those hard to reach areas too ! Nice finds

Just the fact that we're able to hunt in Mass in mid-January is amazing- those finds are SWEET- Congrats!
