Literally...Had to pack it out for about a half mile up and down hills. Dug more iron pieces but when this one came up I had to cull some of it. This is what you miss if you don't dig big iron. Anybody know what the piece is to the right of the iron? Some kind of buckle with a hook. Enjoy.

You're right!~ :D That some big iron! :o And where there's iron, there's bound to be goodies. :icon_pirat: Don't know about the what's it...maybe something for a farming rig?

Nana :)

the buckle/hook thingy is probably part of the the thing with the eyes on it. that piece goes around the horses brisket to rout the reigns back to a wagon or pulling harness. it also prevents the harness from slipping underneath the horse. the haim was usually padded leather so it is long gone probably. pretty neat stuff and the sad iron is cool too. I found 5 of them in lake erie last year.

Thanks Nana. Not many goodies. This old home place is in a clear cut and the loggers really messed the place up. Can only hunt about half of it for all the trees and limbs left.

Thanks wwwtimmcp. I kinda figured it was part of a harness system.

I know what you're talking about.....Went to a spot like that last week. :-X You just know there's keepers there, but just can't get to 'em. :'(

Nice finds. The next time you need help hauling iron out, give me a call. I don't mind doing it at all.

That thing on the lower left with the iron loops is a horse's bit I think? Monty

You're exactly right Monty. I think it's a type of snaffle bit. Thanks for looking.

Right animal, wrong part.

Not hames - but a backband (sometimes called backstrap).

These are hames:

Here are some backbands - (you will see hames more towards the front of the horse)
