whats the buckle off of?

Very nice finds! I know how you feel about going over the whole area. You just never know what might be down there yet, could be your best find ever! Keep up the good work and happy hunting.

Not sure. At first I thought Medieval strap-end but the metal looks more modern & might be horse tack related :icon_scratch:

Hi Cru... mixed pot on this field, and no silver in the last hunt. I don't usually like grass, try to keep
away from it until it has been plowed, but you did find some stuff there... Keeps the button count
up in any case...

Spent 5 hours completing the field which has taken nearly 50 days to do. Its not been a good field but until I can strike it off the list, we have to completely cover it. Or it will play on my mind that there might be something hidding in the last section.

Best finds were:
Livery Button
Hunts Button with Fox
Buckle
You can't strike of a field until there has been four turns of the plow :D that's another four years on the BIG GRASS FIELD :D :D

I have a field with civil war relics that we have hunted for 4 years still stuff that comes out all the time. You will never get it all with what you found this time there is much more there I am sure. do not give up on it that Quick.

It was ploughed up until 2 years ago, now grass for sheep.

Hi,

Its not about giving up quickly, as most UK detectorist would have given up on this one in 2 hours. We did nearly 50 days & covered every part of it. Some areas we had done in previous years & gone back over when it was finally grassed. Its all about priorities & not whether we left stuff behind which is for certain. No point covering poor land when you have 1000s of acres of better land to cover. It good to narrow down your options by completing the worst fields & at least covering them once (but only at this time of year when your options are limited). IMHO. Most would have moved on to better land as soon as they realised how bad it was.

As its now grassed for good & they only shallow plough it every 2 years to re-seed it, I can not worry about it unless I have no other option. At which point we can use our maps to hit the hotspots.

Glad its done :tongue3:

NB. Highlights of this field was the complete Bronze Age Axe, Silver Unit recorded as 17th (I think), Victorian? Spear point, Celtic Boar Head mount, Gold half soveriegn, etc...

You know you missed something, the next plowing might be better! Nice finds as normal. HH, Mike

I agree, each plowing brings up something.

Maybe you didn't read all my replies :icon_scratch: A deep plough which is not going to happen again, can't improve a bad field (even if it did happen).

I detect good ploughed fields time & time again. Some areas I have gone over & over again for 10 years (when I finished with a good field it would be hard to find an iron nail or a 3mm piece of lead). I know the plough brings up things & I know a poor field. My point is that instead of not doing it at all, like most sain UK detectorist, I do it all once. Thats not to say once is enough, but I'm not stupid enough to go over 50+ acres of poor land to get a few small bits and pieces, that would be wasted effort when you have good land to cover & not enough time to do it. ::)
