anywhere i can find good website or reference book for Dandy Buttons?
would love to know the history behind this one

the border is gilded,

and the center is plated silver

I'm not sure that one exists.

I would guess the later half of the 18th Century.

1750-80 - Lemon juice it for 5 minutes & nail brush it under running water.

This fancy silver plated Dandy Button is a nice find. :thumbsup:
Cru has already dated this for you... all I can add is that it looks British in design to me.

Where you dig a relic and the context in which it was found can tell you a great deal about the piece as well.

there are so sooo many designs out there - usually the maker would use/create a particular button for just
one garment- that garment would have 8... 10... 12 of that button design made but it would be the only one with that button design - since most clothes were one of a kind and not mass produced - the Dutch were known for fancy designs on their buttons... in and around the state of NY
long ago a partner and I found a combined 8 large - bout size of yours - around a cellar hole - but its usually hard
to find 2 with the same design from that time period - mine ended up in a button museum

Ive never seen nor heard of a book on "dandy" buttons - someone could start a post to ask TH'ers to post up their
better or fancy ones
