Hey guys! It's been busy with work, but fortunately it's raining all day today so I have some time for a post and maybe even a bit of detecting somewhere. I had one heck of a hunt a week ago or so, and it was at one of the usual spots that we've been hitting for a while now. It started out with me finding another nice gold ring. It's stamped "750" and then "35 AB" it looks like. Once again, a ring with writing that I don't understand. But it's nice. So a bit later in the hunt, I found 2 mercs and a 47 Jefferson in the same hole. Then the war nickel and the Canadian nickel (1962) which was several inches deep and isn't red like other clad. THEN.....me and Mirage had acquired a gathering of small, curious children from the nearby tot lot as we made our way towards the car. Since area was right near the blacktop, where people were always playing basketball or kids were having football practice or little ones were in the tot lot, we never really hit it much, but we never really thought it would have much potential for anything but clad anyway. And there was clad. Then I got a nice sold 88 VDI and said to the girl standing next to me and Mirage, "this sounds like a half!" I wasn't even expecting a half, but it sounded great and was deepish and we've pulled all kinds of stuff from this place. So I dug and popped out a coin that looked the size of a large cent. This couldn't be. I announced what I thought it looked like before I picked it up, and from Mirage came a defiant "NO..." But yes, 1851. The girl called her friends over and I explained to them what the coin was as they asked and showed them the ONE CENT on one side of the coin. And that was the end of a pretty fantastic outing.
I went back to the same spot a few days later and picked up an great old token pretty close to where the LC was. After trying to read the writing, I came up with "$$$ Purchase Coin Worth 1/7 Pound Senora Coffee Haserot Company Cleveleand, OH." The other side was "For 7 coins _________ selling ________ give one pound Senora coffee FREE." and "Our chase coin _____ the advertising cost." Something like that. I did a bit of researching and haven't nailed it yet but it's pretty interesting. Also got another war nickel.
Now I accidentally included the token again in the pics in the following group of finds. But this was from another hunt at the same site yet again. Not too much but got 2 silver rings within 5 or 10 minutes of each other.
This group of finds was from the recent site that we've pulled some silver Rosie's and a couple mercs from. The finds here are pretty hit and miss, as it's a large field.
And now for the roadtrip to PA where we met up with Bill! It was so nice to be out camping for a night away from home and to just chill, the three of us. The site we hit was going to be some old foundations in the woods; it sounded great, but we spend hours searching and couldn't figure out where the heck they were, despite Bill having some directions. Heh, and I actually got lost for over an hour while me and Mirage were doing a parallel walk through the woods to search and were going to end up at a road. I wanted to increase the distance between us cause I figured we could cover more ground visually that way. When I couldn't find the road, I went back the way we came and was looking for a 4 wheeler trail perpendicular to my path. Well I must have just missed it, and I kept going for miles and ended up at a paved road that ran perpendicular to the road we parked on. I didn't know this at the time. But I saw an old abandoned place in the distance about a half-mile away and went over to detect it just real quick. Only a few wheats. It was time to get unlost, so I walked back down the paved road, onto some 4 wheeler trails, into the woods, and back towards the direction we started from. Well I walked miles in that direction, way too far, and was just about to turn around and go crazy because I hadn't found the road when I heard a CAR! And it was dad! So I leaped out of the woods and hailed him down and that was finally over. Turns out my senses of direction were fantastic, I just didn't see the road from where I was standing (it was dirt/gravel and blended in with everything, and there were some woods on the other side of the road). And I just missed that one ATV trail somehow. Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway. It was still a great trip and always nice to meet a new buddy. 8) And thanks for inviting us to hunt the place with you!
Oh, and we hit a spot on the way home. It was only a semi-old school but it was bordering some old houses. Mirage found ___ along the edge of the field towards the houses. I was poking around and didn't get much. I ended up in the middle of the field (sort of) and got a signal that almost sounded like chirping iron or a false. But I could sort of pinpoint something barely....it turned out to be a very nice 1914 barber. Wow. We thought about calling Bill but there was no cell phone service! I ended up with another barber and a 1899 indian in the same hole with a wheat. Also a small little thing that I wonder if someone can identify...the thing on the right in the last 2 pics. Oh, and some of the stuff like the Chinese cash coin were from a little poking around on our way out to PA. Ok time to stop rambling/writing a book and enjoy my day off! Thanks for looking yall and take care!
