Big brass buckle / harness ring ??

This actually was my only find today and am only posting it here ! What do you think ? The ring is brass with the heavy iron wire attatchment. As you can see there is a wear mark / groove that I do not believe is plow damage Did they use iron attatchments on a saddle or is this perhaps a hitch ring ?? Thanks for looking ! MaineRelic

It would help to know where you found it. It's not a saddle(cinch) ring, It's too small and to lite to be a hitch ring. It looks to be a lashing (tie down) ring from a cargo/heavy wagon?? Tony
