Hello
We have all heard similiar stories from people about all the arrowheads that they
used to find on Grandpa's farm when they were little or about cigar boxes full of
points that were put away years ago.(Lost over the years). Such a story was told
to me by a friend at work. His Grandmother had a box of artifacts from the field
behind her house. Unfortunately the box is lost somewhere in the house and the
field in question hasn't been planted in over fifteen years. Two deadends.
The week after Thanksgiving that changed. It seems the field which is owned
by the village was put up for rent and was subsequencely plowed. Because of
the snow and ice coverage I couldn't give the field a look until we had a recent
warm spell. I wandered around in a cold biting rain and discovered the following.
A large broken Bifurcate. The material appears to be very dark Coshocton flint.
Next up was a broken preform or knife.
I also found a tiny flake scraper or knife. I laid a broken tip (from a diff. site)
beneath the Bifurcate to simulate how it may have appeared.
We recieved three inches of snow last night. It will be awhile before I can get
out there again. It will fuel my dreams with all the huge Archaic points I'm
going to pick up out there this Spring.
With all that snow Mr. Smokey is glad to stretch out in front of the fireplace.
Sometimes I wonder why he doesn't catch fire.
