I am new to all of this and am very interested. I would like to get a unit from $100- $180 and no more. I found the BH Quick Draw on the Net for $179. I know there is others in this price range as well and I am not sure which way to go. I was originally going to get the BH Fast tracker and I am not sure that I am getting that much more for the extra $80. I also found the entry lever Tesoro for $155.
I live in Michigan if that helps with terrain.
Please help!

Buy used of the internet. You'll get twice the machine at half the price. True, there are some crooks out there, but you can always inquire about someone before buying. So far, I've had nothing but good luck buying/selling over the net. I've also saved thousandsof $. One thing to keep in mind is that if you buy a cheap unit you're, more than likely, end up selling it & getting a higher end unit, despite the warranty. You'll end up taikg a loss with the lower priced new unit & likely recoup your cash with the used one. ...Willy.

Im getting ready to upgrade to a Garrett Ace 250. I have 2 buddies at work that have Fishers, Troys, and Minelabs......and they both say that its a good detector for the price. Retail is $250 but there are some on ebay(New w/warranty) for $199 shipped, plus you get 5 freebies with it. Carry bag, apron, headphones, and 2 books. I told them about the ebay ones and they said when I order mine....get them one too.

They had saw one in the local shop and tried it out in the test garden.......what it registered was what it was. I've asked for one for Christmas.....if I dont get it I guess I'll have to make the wife mad and get one myself ;D

I agree buy on ebay, you get more bang for your buck, I just paid for a Classic ID last monday (on ebay) my problem is I haven't from the guy as yet so I'm getting a little anxious. Or Whites has 50 dollars off on their new Prizms that makes the cheapest a little under two hundred. But whatever you do good luck with it. HH Bob.B

I dunno. From what I've seen of ebay, it's a bit of a crap shoot. I had to laugh seeing Bounty hunters going for more than one would pay in the stores.? I personally think you're better off hitting the classifieds on the various forums; lotsa detectors for sale there & more every day. You can also put out a request for specific units or prices & usually get a response. I know that if I had a credit card I'd SELL a detector on ebay & maybe get more than I paid for it. ..Willy.

a tesoro is a better machine than a bounty hunter if they sell it at walmart u don't want it but for the money spend the extra 20 and get an ace 250 from kellyco 199 with shipping very nice people to deal with i just bought 2 of them 1 for me and 1 for my son we love em ;D ;D

GLAD to hear you got them Fetz. I'm still researching some sites for us this Spring. I'm wondering about MOONSHINER's spots right now, and trying to pinpoint them.

I bought a fisher coin strike off of ebay last year and didnt have any problems with it. Do your research before you buy. Go to losttreasure.com and do some field tests. Bounty hunter Pioneer 505 from walmart would be a good machine. This is just my opinion. I have used and owned relco, jetco, radio shack, bounty hunter, whites, compass, tesoro, garrett, and fisher. Find a local dealer if you can find one in your area. Kellyco has online help.It all depends on how well you know your machine! The guy that owns the radio shack could find find just as much or more than the guy with the minelab if he doesnt know what his detector is telling him!! Hope this helps. Good Luck in finding what you want.

As a Newbie, I'd like to offer my own experience with both Bounty Hunter and Tesoro. I have used a BH LoneStar for a few years and I can't imagine anything better for the money. I have found tons of coins, rings, etc., in the parks here in Yuma with it. I can always count on it for "beer & batteries". The notch feature is great, and I would never buy a general-purpose detector again without it.

My Tesoro is a Lobo Supertraq, which is in an entirely different league both in price and use. I use it strictly for gold, as it will drive you absolutely nuts in a garbage-littered park. Tesoro makes some very good coin-shooting detectors, but the price may be a bit high. I do believe you could probably find a good medium range Tesoro on eBay within your budget, and I have never had any problems buying there.

I also have an older White's. They make very good machines, but nowdays may be a little pricey, too. Also, check out Garrett's detectors. You might find a bargain there. Good luck!

Hello, I'm useing a Bounty Hunter I picked up at Big 5 for $99.00 bucks and It has paid for it's self 15 times over. I suggest getting it if you intend on hunting parks and schools for modern clad or jewlery. it's no good in pee graval or sand and only goes about 5 inches down in the tone mode. let me know if you get it and I can help yopu with the settings. It's the tracker 4 model.
