Have a question on my 505 when i swing it it will sometimes read 50c or 1 dollar 8 to 10 inches it is just a quick peep but when i try to pinpoint it and go to all metal i cannot get a good read, my 505 does real well at targets 4 to 5 inches deep but it seems anything deeper i just cant get a good read. is this just because my 505 is not the best detector and cannot go that deep or do i just suck at trying to find deep targets. oh i mainly coin hunt.

ibbasser: Don't really have enough information to give you a specific answer, but there could be several things causing what you've described to happen. If you're getting a quick beep in Discriminate mode, it could be that the Sensitivity is set too high and is falsing. If you're failing to find it in All-Metal (I assume No-Motion All-Metal for pinpointing), it could be that you're swining the coil too fast. Most of the BH machines require very slow coil motion (about one to two coil diameters per second) for accurate target identification and best depth. Typically, targets that won't lock onto a specific target category are just trash. You should be getting a good tone swinging over the target in both directions and should have stable target ID. Other things causing this could be regular batteries, the BH rigs I own are pretty sensitive about batteries, if it says ALKALINE, then use ALKALINE batteries. Heavy Duty types cause falsing in my unit. If you're using rechargeables, some have said that NiCAD can cause problems, but NiMH do not. One way to really learn the 505 is with a test garden where you're checking known targets as know depths. Also, at first dig every target until you learn your particular MD's language. You may also want to post this question over at the Bounty Hunter Forum at http://www.detecting.com. Several guys over there use the 505 with very good results. Hope this helps you out a bit. BBJ
