bh 505 help

My Titan 3000 came with the 8.5 coil and I added the 4 inch coil , both have worked fine. A few weeks back I also got the 10 inch coil and am not happy with it. The target numbers are not repeating and they are jumping all over the place. I'm going to contact them (BH) and ask for advice. (The coil may have to be calibrated ?) With my Tesoro that would mean a trip to the factory. I really don't want to send a (fairly) new unit in and not have it for awhile. I'll update for you if I hear anything interesting.

Unfortunately I'm a victim of the 505 too. It's probably more of your depth meter rather than your coil. Mine jumps the whole way regardless of how deep the object is... plain an simple, that depth meter sucks. I'm frustrated enough with mine that I'm planning on replacing it within a week or two with a better detector.

On another note, I'll be interested to see what kind of things you find with yours, because I sure haven't had any luck with mine. I'm just curious to see if it's man or machine that can't detect.

I'd phone the factory and talk to a repair guy. I have a BH Land Ranger and all 3 coils and it works pretty well considering how much it cost compared to my GTI 2500. JIM

I have a BH Land Star and the depth frequently reads deeper than the target really is. My dog chewed on the coil and I talked to the factory about a new 8" coil and they said I needed to send in the unit and have the coil tuned for the machine (or maybe machine tuned for the coil?). I would think the best performance would be doing the same with the 10 inch coil. The problems I have are with me not the detector as I am new to this. Hunted with a guy Sunday who uses a 505 and he was finding lots of stuff.

BH e-mailed right back,
A) check batteries ( new , full power, that's not it )
B) send detector and coil back to them. did give a phone number think I'll call and talk it over.
May just return the 10 inch coil and keep using the 8.5 and 4.0, they work perfect.
