Beware: Feds cracking down on garage sales

That's just nuts... seriously... what the heck will they try next?

Scott Wolfson, a spokesman for the agency, said it wouldn't be dispatching bureaucratic storm troopers into private homes to see whether people were selling recalled products from their garages, yards or churches.

"We're not looking to come across as being heavy-handed," he said. "We want to make sure that everybody knows what the rules of engagement are to help spur greater compliance, so that enforcement becomes less of an issue. But we're still going to enforce."

My hope Enforce Only means Confiscation of the Item & A Warning
to be aware

unless someone makes a buisness of selling recalled items
I would see no threat to the public.

Now wait a minute Jeff. That's just common sense. Surely someone will object. ::) Monty

I was fully expecting this to be about taxing income from garage sales. Oops, I''d better be quiet or I might give someone an idea.
But what a joke this is. It appears to me that the lawyers have written this law so that if a child is injured with a toy bought at a garage sale that has been recalled, said lawyer can then go sue the person holding the sale for negligence.
You're right Allen, the govt needs to but out of our personal business.

Well, I for one, would never put a recalled item in a garage sale. That is just plain common sense! But I guess some folks lack that! Depending on the object in question, I would either return it to the maker, trash it, or just store it away.

I thought this article too, would be about taxes and such. Even though our city already charges $5.00 for every garage sale you hold after the initial 2 per year allowed.

Yep....the government needs to keep it's nose out of our business, that's for sure. But this is not the same country that I was brought up in, sadly! I just pray for my children and their future, if there is one.

Damn! Now what will I do with my hoard of Wham-O (R) "Slip 'n' Slide" toys?

Note: One of the scariest, yet strangely mundane, videos I ever saw was of a regular middle aged guy turning himself into a quadraplegic with this toy.

Staffers for the federal agency are fanning out across the country to conduct training seminars on the regulations at dozens of thrift shops.

There's a place to start cutting the federal budget.

We're (most of us) really not that stupid.

There is a large Fleamarket near me, that has been operating for at least 50 years. They are open every Sunday during the Summer months "outside". They draw a lot of people. Just last year the state informed them that all the vendors will have to start keeping records of all sales and charge sales tax on all the goods that they sell.
