"BEST QUALITY" Button

Can someone tell me anything such as age of this button, marked "BEST QUALITY"? I found it last weekend in an overall disappointing hunt with Con. It was a new site with potential, but not on this outing.
I also found a flat button marked "DOUBLE GILT".

This one appears to be a molded button, there is a seam on the back.

Re: "BEST QUALITY" Button

I am often corrected, but I believe this is a civilian button dating to around 1825 (give or take 20 years).

I too just found a "BEST QUALITY" button while in Antrim, NH. My button is thick and flat. Also, when found, still had fabric attached to the loop. The soil seemed to have preserved it.

Gilt, Double gilt, Plate, and Plated are some of the earliest back marks that date around 1800 to 1820.
Best Quality is usually found (for me) on two piece floral or designed buttons that are from the 1830 to 1860 range.
A tough thing to get an exact I.D. on as it was a pretty general back mark.
Double gilt is definitely older.
Nice button!
Cheers,
Dave.
