Best Navy Button 1812ish (most guilt) + silver Half Dollar Live Video too boot.

Went out by myself, seems everyone else was busy. Too bad.
A site I got 14 buttons on a previous hunt before was freshly plowed. Within ten minutes I get a button, knew there was something on it, turns out to be my best Navy button ever. It is a looker IMO.
Ten-fifteen minutes or so later I get a solid 94 signal on my Omega, thinking pop can, but turn on the camera anyway? and pull a half dollar (1902-1910) OK, I had thought with the age of the average find on this site that the coin was going to be better (older) but that's still cool. I got both the coin finds on live dig video. Video is short too at 2 and a half minutes. Stopped to watch some model airplanes on the way home. Great day.

Forgot to mention the copper is a GEO III., and only about the 3rd coin from the site.

The style of that button may predate 1812. Perhaps 1780's.- 1790's. I'll look into my books right now but the style looks a lot like British Rev buttons.

Yeah it can predate 1812, 1805 my research says, but I'm not one for splitting hairs, as it makes no difference in reality. It is what it is...a nice button...right ?

PS: I have one just as nice. ...so it makes this easier to take. Have only found one since and was at the same place... next field over. The first was well over a decade ago, and I've always liked it a lot... one of my favorite early Navy buttons.

Thanks a lot, it means a lot...I've seen your case. This is now probably my best button, at least "eye appeal wise", and my total of good buttons is only like a half dozen anyway. Also when you say you have one (or two) gives me a real sense of how rare it is. Am so glad I finally found one with the gold still on it. I do have the large one from a few years back.

Well you can't let the shine of gilt blind your judgement because that Rev war 4th pewter is a much better button. The Navy buttons can look great, and the records of when they were issued make them easy to date, but we can never track the history like we can a regiment. So as good as all my Navy and Artillery look in the case they still take a backseat to the other buttons. But I still do love adding new ones! You definitely have the eye appeal happening on that one!
