best metal detectors

Thats Easy "MINELAB"? 8) of course alot will disagree, I'm shure.? ?TOP: Explorer 2 , Next Quarto & next Sovereign / Excalibur (Tied)? I use a Sovereign. I should say I have used WHITES & GARRETT

Like jeff says "Thats easy" Whites all their models are good, I bet if 10 people answer you'll get( I was going to say 10 different names, but I don't think there are that many name brand units) well you get the idea, mainly its what you are comfortable with and have faith in. HH Bob.B

probably is not a best but are several top good models as each has a pro and con

for the tops i would put minelab, whites, tesro, garret,

for all multi purpose doing a bit of everything
Ive seen not much that can compete with the whites mxt

just my opinion..

Bounty hunters 3 top models...
they make great machines, and because they mass produce they cost farrrr less then detectors of the same quality and features
in most cases BH machines offer much more then the higher priced machines from other companies

I believe each detector has its strong and weak points, all depends what you want to do. I have tried whites, garrett, fisher, and minelab explorer, like the explorer best so far. My only complaint is that the rings i find don't have diamond settings, This morn finds was pennies a quarter and 1 ring. Day before 5 quarters dime and penny. Thats the thing about detecting thats keeps us going, is that we never know what we might find..reds

For raw power minelab and troy...for turn on and go and find coins and gold Fisher Whites...But the best is the one you learn to use right...HH

For sure learn to use what you have and you can be suprised what you find...reds

First of all there is no "one" best detector. For obvious reasons!
Detectors are made for specific purposes. For example try and take an MXT diving :)

You can't just group all detectors together and say,...pointing at one in the bunch,....that's the best one. I would have to say there is a best in each catagory of use (water, land, gold, coin, etc.) I'm not saying anything here that hasn't been said before. But, I personally would say (for my needs) the minelab is the best one's out there. AGAIN, I'm thinking in terms of waterproof/beach hunting.

Decide what you want to do with it and then post the question in terms of that type of hunting, just my suggestion to ya :)

Good luck, I hope you find that "rich" item to re-sell!

I'm a Fisher user and swear by the CZ series. But you'll have to decide what your budget looks like, then select the mid level or high end or bottom shelf. Remember one thing, basic RF principle. None of today's metal detectors are "maxed out" on power out. In perfect conditions, were they at full allowable output for their class of device, a dime at 4" might look like a tin can and all iron would sound nice unless it was real deep. They are all governed by the same laws. It's a combination of the way the signals are processed by the electronics and your interpretation of that information.

One other thing, there are definitely advantages to knowing what you're machine can do and using it to it's strengths. I would not take a low end machine out relic hunting or look for deep old coinage with a mid level machine. The right machine, or the machine you have, used to it's strengths will get you the best results.

Well said Lowbatts!

I think it boils down to which high end machine you would rather learn. I really like my Exp II, cause it has a lot of capabilities. I like my Garrett because of its Imaging qualities. But with either one, I still dig up junk :) I'm too curious to leave it in the ground!!!

"MINELAB" Explorer 2 , Next Quarto & next Sovereign just like jeff says! ;)

I've only yesterday purchased my first "quality" or "high-end" detector. I can tell you that by watching the posts here that the people here are as split on brands of detectors as car buffs are on makes of cars! My experience is with cheap MDs, and I must agree with some of the other replies above, what really matters is your experience and being familiar with your equipment! 8)

Yep, good point f2D, but there is an operational limit you bump against based on your choice of machine, that is a fact. Used my BH days to the strengths of the machine I had. When I knew I wanted to get deeper, it wasn't just a matter of the proverbial "bells and whistles" it was the real increase in depth that comes from the high end equipment.

When I got my first CZ5 very shortly after they hit the market it was a major change in ability. I've stuck with the CZ series since then as there has been no effective change in signalling characteristics among MD mfrs since the CZ lines came out and the other high end machines all have similar depth capabilities.

I've hunted with a lot of other folks and so far have been most impressed with the White's high end line. Not enough to switch brands, I am working my machine to it's limits and am satisfied with the results. But at the end of the day most of us use the big dollar machines becasue we find ourselves at sites where even for the shallow targets, these machines are better in either target separation, identification or locating that elusive find.

That said let me add, no brand wars fellas! (sounding kinda like an invite to some of you)
