I usually always go hunting to resell but sometimes the deals are just too good for me not to keep. My latest is a pair of Air Jordans that were my size, the guy said he bought storage auctions and I asked how much and he said $3.00 I grabbed them and was thinking of listing them on ebay for a quick $50+ flip but I tried them on and decided I would just keep them :) Wearing them now getting ready to go attend a NBA game with my beloved Portland Trail Blazers.

Wizard of Oz canvas print.

A Model 37 Ithaca Featherlight 12 guage Pump Shotgun

Victorian can seated chain in American walnut. Oval seat and back. I recaned the seat. On the bottom is marked "R. Renwick and Son, Baltimore, Maryland". It was made about 1850. Cost $5.00.

I'd have to think about that one for a while, but the one that comes to mind:

A super...almost mint...Martin guitar with a hard shell case.

I was at a garage sale, and the guitar was sitting behind the people having the sale. I asked if the guitar was for sale, and the gal replied "Yeah, but I'm not taking less than $50 for it."

I about broke my wrist trying to get the cash out of my wallet with lightening speed. Those guitars are selling for $900-$1,000 on ebay right now.

My wife took lessons on that guitar for a while. It soon may make its way to eBay...something we've been discussing for the past week.

I do my buying online, but in the 10 years or so I have been doing it I have never bought something to flip and then decided to keep it. And believe me, I've had some awesome stuff! In a way I think how great it would be if I would have built a massive collection, but to do that I wouldn't have all the other goods I currently have... and I'd rather have these other items than stuff that's just locked away in display cases. My detecting finds scratch that itch for me.

A framed bird's eye view of mt twin communities in great shape, a few bucks.

A brand new Guy Harvey T shirt with a marlin in it - 50 cents.

A beautiful 5 draw brass and mahogany telescope made in Germany from about 1860, $35.

A set of B&W (Bowers and Wilkins) high end speakers ($1100.00 new, model DM 603-S2) that were imported from England. They wanted $60 for the set and they looked like they were brand new. I gave them $100 (I knew the person running the sale and they were running the sale to raise money for a good purpose) and took them home with the intent to sell them. Then I unhooked my Yamaha speakers to try them out and verify that they worked before selling. I never reconnected my old ones after that. My living room surround system is better than the theater now. I could have gotten $600 for them on ebay, but I'd rather have them here. My old yamaha speakers will sell for more than I paid for these anyway.

Another time I bought a silvertone victrola type record player with a cabinet underneath and made of tiger oak with the original label and finish, in working order, for $100. It fits in with my decor perfectly and I have a corner waiting for just something like that, so it wound up staying here as well.

I found and purchased a pair of Steiner Military binoculars with the reticle pattern in the right lens for $50.00. As a former field artillery red leg, I had always wanted a pair.

Signed, numbered, Hoselton Canada full sized duck sculpture. Cast aluminum. Weighs 11 pounds. Bought at yard sale 15 yrs ago for $5 out in West Texas. It was a long way from home. Mine now.

My entire stereo system came from garage sales plus about 40% of my LPs. I have an HK 730i receiver and a Sony LX520 turntable. Total cost $12.

Well I won't get into too many of the things I keep, as almost everything I own came from garage sales, estate sales, thrift shops, or pawn shops. However, the most recent "treasure" I'll wear out before I sell, is a small one-hand Rockwell/Porter Cable model 155 router (cost $5) that allows me to finally do detailed marquetry inlay. My "old" Makita router was much too big and cumbersome, but works well in a router table. Of course a purchase about 5 years ago that I knew was a keeper the moment I bought it; my 1969 classic model Omega automatic watch. I picked it up for the princely sum of $2 and traded two gold rings to a guy for a general restoration. I paid $7 for the rings. I'm wearing the watch as I type this on my $10 dual core Dell Inspiron computer.

I guess you gave me my answer for this because that's what I did too in my late teens and early 20s. It's funny how it doesn't hold a candle to what I have now, but man oh man did that old one do the job at the time. In a way I think it would have been nice to have the stuff I have now, back then, but thinking a little more it would have been a bad idea because I would have sold it all in the end.

A WW2 Japanese pith helmet. Just because it was too cool to part with.

Speeling... LOL Your post sounds like me. Almost everything we have is from some type of second hand sale. I could never have afforded it otherwise.

I found a nice leather Harley Davidson Jacket with Tags for $10. My daughter took a liking to it, and she wears is almost everyday. I found a REALLY nice Taxco Mexican Sterling pin from about 1925 or 1940. Art Deco style from a named maker (can't remember the name off hand). I paid $20, and gave it to my wife for her birthday rather than sell it for $250. My mother in law is getting a Waterford Chrystal 10" Bowl new in box with Printed Tissue and so on. Cost $45, ebay price would be about $150 to $200. Amazon price is $285. In general, I keep nothing for myself. I need very little. I get a lot of gifts and life needs for my family (I am 6'5" 225#, so I generally can't find clothes at Garage Sales that would fit me. Besides, I wear $15 pants and $8 shirst from J.C. Penny's... It's not like I can save all that much by buying at garage sales)... Now, if I could find a nice pair of shoes... size 14... It would REALLY help.

FWIW, my wife likes to latch onto things I find.

I bought a Nikon F series camera at a flea market for $40. I could have flipped the camera at the time for $200 to $225, and the Nikon film speed winder for another $80. She had to have that camera, and it still sits in the Nikon bag in the closet. I haven't looked it up again, but I doubt the pair would sell for much.

I also found a vintage Fiesta coffee urn in radioactive red for $9. It would have sold easily for $175, but I gave it to her for her birthday.

The best find I have kept for myself was buying almost all of some ones tools including a huge craftsman upper and bottom tool box full of high end tools, machinist vice from the 1920's and more for less than $100.00  I would love to repeat this but I doubt I ever will.

I bought a chainsaw for 10.00 that I keep in my jeep and my 10,000lbs winch was 15.00 complete with mounting plate. I kept both of those.
