You deepest setting is always All Metal with no disc. If the field was hunted before, remember silver is very conductive and even a high disc setting will let silver sound off even if deep. All you can hope for then is the other guy didn't over lap his sweeps as much as you and missed some silver.

Good Luck,
Sandman

The "canned" programs are setup by Whites with conservative settings so that the new user is less likely to run into problems. Your best bet would be to increase the AC Sensitivity to, maybe 72 and your Preamp to 3. Once set, if you hold the coil in the air and are not picking up noise or EMI signals on the display you may be able to increase the Preamp to 4. That should help a lot with depth.

There is a great book out there that covers every detail of the DFX, "Digging Deeper with the DFX" by Jeff Foster. It is pretty technical but explains everything from the settings to ground mineralization. I recommend you get one.

You may also look for advice from the good people at www.dfxonly.com

It has been posted at DFXonly I also have some other programs there.

As Shrecky said the Digging Deeper With the DFX by Jeff Foster is great. Also, try this link: http://www.whiteselectronics.com/dfxbook.php

I tried to get the free Understanding the DFX book by Jimmy Sierra and it worked. That was back in January, last person to post that they got one was in March. Give it a shot. In the mean time check out the dfxonly.com forum.

Eu citizen.... I think you have your accept and reject settings backwards!!! You have reject +1 to +95? And accept...-95 to 0???? You may want to modify your post...appears 100% backwards...just not to confuse a new dfx user...

No Gregg that is correct, known as reverse discrimination. Also note:
Visual Disc OFF

It WILL show all targets that the Disc mode can get a hold on!

And with Tone ID on and tone at 247 the good targets sound lovely with that high pitched tone!

I understand what you are doing... This program is actually a Jeff Foster program slightly modified.. Nothing new...on page 65 of his book..But a few questions for you... Just never heard of it being or working in a single frequency mode... The only way I have heard this program working is in multi frequency...using normally best data on...or correlate...

You are correct Gregg. ;D
It does work with both multi Freq and single freq. That is as long as your not on the salt water beach.

I use it on inland beaches and it works lovely though in some places you need a multi frequency method.
