Ok, I would like to plan a trip and do some nugget huntin'... Have not done this before, so here is my criteria.
Would like a location where I have possibility of several small nuggets, NOT necessarily the opportunity for the mother lode !! (starting out I figured it better to catch little fish all day than one big one).

So, two questions.... best place in the continental US ?? and best decent location nearest southern Missouri ??
I ask for near MO in case I ever just want to take a long weekend as opposed to a full vacation type trip.

Thanks,
Brad

Not true about finding nuggets on the beaches of alaska...few and far between. but, the fortymile river area has lots of nuggets..seen 'em with my own eyes. there, and wiseman area..but that is different. the nuggets to be found in alaska are usually in old tailings piles. when the operation in an area classified material to catch the gold, they had to decide on the best sized classification system to make it profitable and move as much earth as possible per hour. Even though they knew they would miss out on the larger nuggets, they had to classify smaller to get the system operating at peak production performance. Some operations actually paid a man to stand and watch the screened material to try and spot the larger nuggets that they knew were being discarded in the tailings. A prime example of this is the walker creek mining area in the forty mile river area. lots and big nuggets escaped their machinery. I used to dredge there with my 8 inch precision.

Perfect example is the 4+ pound chicken nugget, found at days end when the d-9 was pushing scrap into the creek, seen and recovered by chance, how many more went into the creek as scrap??John
