I am guessing it was gilded once and came from england due to spelling of "Colour"

In the early days of our country we did not have the industry required to produce our own needs so we relied on foreign countries for much of them. Button makers in England vied with each other for the blossoming market here and used different terms to describe their wares in order to get a leg up on the competition. Thus, backmarks like yours and others were used like advertising. With some research it might be possible to come up with a maker. Your button most likely dates from the late 1700s to the early 1800s.
