'Best All-Round Boy' Medallion- Trinity School Sri Lanka??

Here's my only find from yesterday. on surface in a flat fieldstone embankment.
Figured it was boy scout, or some other group.
After researching slogan, all I find is a Medal for Trinity School, Kandy in Sri Lanka. with the exact match, including hyphen.
This piece is finely made and quite heavy, 14 grams 35MM H X 28mm W.
Shown in 'as found' condition.
was found within 100 feet of a 1898 Mckinley medallion, 1885 Chester Arthur medallion, 1864 MCclellan medallion,
and a 1919 Nh Service in World war Cross Medal, previously posted, imagine it was the site for political gatherings/awards in Portsmouth NH.
My issue is that I cannot find an image! anywhere!
Here's a lead:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ryde_Gold_Medal
Hoping someone can find an image of the Ryde Medal !!!
thanks & great digs to you all! Herbie.

I think that is an early Boy Scout medal.

Not likely,

I checked Boy Scout official and collector sites, nothing close ever issued.
would likely have Insignia or BSA.
I think it is The Ryde Medal.
Still haven't Found the image online.
Hoping one of you T-Net Sleuths can !

In doing a Google search for "Best All-Around Boy," it appears as though there were numerous medals bearing such a slogan, ranging from the Boy Scouts, to numerous schools, to Tom McCann Shoes.

I don't believe this is a Ryde Gold Medal. The school crest is three lions, and I'd think they'd include at least one on a medal that holds such importance for the school. I couldn't find a photo, unless the medal on this fellow's jacket is a Ryde: http://www.dailynews.lk/2006/09/16/spo20.asp

Your medal seems a bit more on the generic side, like for track and field or a dog show (no offense intended). It's a cool find, but I don't think the wikipedia lead is going anywhere.

None taken eathan,
I find many 'all around' results, the 'all-round' yields few.
maybe from a local club/school and never notable enough to yield results.
thanks for the young mans photo, wish we could discern the medal.
am hoping for reply from the school. will examine back for maker info, Thanks all! & HH

Important note! Slogan is 'Best all-round boy' not 'all around',
I think this rather peculiar wording will be key to ID. and the main reason I believe it may be from Sri Lanka. (which also happens to be where Holland used the '1780 trade ducat' That I found earlier this year :hello2:)

I hope someone can solve it. http://cgi.ebay.com/1947-Thom-McAn-...aultDomain_0&hash=item3ca332065d#ht_500wt_898 http://cgi.ebay.com/1947-Thom-McAn-...aultDomain_0&hash=item3ca332065d#ht_500wt_898

Too bad we cant read anything on the back to get a manufacturers dateline. Is that writing near the top hole, top right in the shadow?
Thanks BigcypressHunter, gave it another close look, no back or side marks.
I will write to the school again on Monday.

I hope you hear back from the school and it could be their medal. But I did a quick newspaper search and here a just three examples of the phrase being used on awards - there were quite a few more than this-

From 1922

From 1930

Its possible that every school in the nation gave away an all-round boy award in the 20's- 30's..

It looked like letters NE.

That rules out Tom McCann.

??? Slogan is 'Best all-round boy' not 'all-around'. It would seem to rule out Tom McCann unless its a misprint.

Found another Best All-Round Boy medal mention (without a pic), apparently given out by Mayo College. Limited Internet time tonight, so didn't track down the school. Have you checked out local schools/academies past and present? Thanks for the update on the correct spelling, BTW.

thanks for all your replies,
probably a local award, hoping to hear back from the Trinity school.
BigCypress, here's a pic of the back of the medal in question,
I can't make out any letters, but my eyes aren't so good,
great Digs to All!
