Hello to you all. Im trying to decide on a new detector. I have been using an ace 250. While it has been great at finding clad, i havent found much else. What are some good detectors that are a step up from the ace? Want to find some silver! Coins or rings.

Maybe it has been user error with the 250, but i have some extra money to upgrade, so just looking for suggestions.

Thanks

There is nothing wrong with the 250. Silver being more conductive than clad will ring out loud an clear when you get the coil over it. All you'll get by "upgrading" are different features. There is no magic detector.

You can find silver, coins, and rings with the 250 you just need to be in the right place at the right time. I don't think a better (more expensive) detector will help you with that. Make sure your batteries are fully charged. Where do you do your hunting? Try hiking/bicycle trails and around lakes/beaches. Always search around trees- they are a magnet for people to congregate. Check around fire pits and picnic tables. Spending more money ain't going to help you. Make sure your batteries are always fresh or recharged. Low battery power in detectors will make you give up very easy.

I know the ace will find the stuff, ive just been reading reviews and a lot of folks are saying its great for coins, but there are detectors better suited for jewelry, relics, and sand. The ace goes apeshit when it hits sand

MD is a lot like fishing. Some days you can slay the beasts--- other days you don't get so much as a nibble. The secret to MD is to get there and nab it before someone else does. Most people get into the hobby thinking they are going to find a $1,000 ring within a week. Some of the newbies actually believe in the detector screens that tell them what they found. The one thing I can truly rely on my mxt pro is the depth meter- all the bells and whistles and multi tones are only used as aids in determining if you want to dig it or pass it by.

If you are not hitting the saltwater, the AT Pro is a great machine.

Upgrading your detector will usually give you more control, features, and sometimes depth. More importantly, you need to do some research to hunt more likely spots for silver (or gold!) If you're after jewelry, hit the swimming areas. Old coins.....old parks, schools, private properties, etc.

Well, there are better machines that can deal with junky areas and go a little deeper. But If IMO, the ACE is VERY well suited to find jewlery, ive found way more gold with my Ace than I have my AT PRO...and its not because its better...I was just in the right place

I hunt alot of sports fields, and some produce better than others and some seem not to produce crap..but thats not because of the machine, its the location.

If you are hunting beaches, I would get one designed for that. But dont let people think the ACE is not suitble for jewelry, the thing with it is, its dumbed down enough to make you dig the signals, without having to debate on if you've seen that number on the VDI before. I noticed I cherry pick with the numbers on my ATP and I know im probally passing things up

Best of luck!

I noticed I found more rings by changing my hunt, not a new detector. While I can dig deep, I usually just kick around in the tot lots and can usually find a ring a week if I go out every day. Some days I find two. I find a lot of foil too lol. Only you know if your ready to upgrade. Lots of things to consider in a new machine. Where do you normally hunt?

Slims, the Ace 250 is a very capable machine and will find all types of treasures, gold, silver, clad, relics, you just have to get the coil over it. If you really want to up grade the AT pro is a good start I bought mine so I could hunt in shallow water and for those days when it looks like rain. I have been caught in the rain many times with the pro and I was sure glad I had it rather then my non water proof units. Do your research watch you tube videos on the units you maybe interested in and decide what works for you. Remember to check the treasure net forums there is tons of info on most all machines. Good luck HH.

The 250 is fine in perfect conditions unhunted virgin spots just like any entry level detector. It when your hunting spots are tougher that an upgrade is in order. You don't have to spend a fortune to get one either. I messed around with a detector for a couple years not finding many old coins and wundering what I might be missing then found a used explorer for $400 in a pawn shop and after about a month started finding silver coins in places that I had been to many times with out ever finding any. I'm not saying go buy an explorer just that you can get a former top of the line detector for not a lot of money.

I agree if you are not detecting over salt water, wet sand or trashy mineralized ground. I don't think you would have missed much.
Sometimes you might find more because due to the weight you get less fatigued and cover more ground

Having an adjustable ground balance feature is important. Under certain conditions the detection depth can be limited by ground minerals. I had a Ace 350, which is a preset ground balance detector like the 250 and many other detectors. I had trouble with false signals and unstable threshold levels. I upgraged to a Whites XLT and never looked back.
