I found this buckle at an old homestead by my neighbor's house that had burned down sometime back in the 50's due to the age of some of the bottles, melted plastics, moss growth etc. I have permission to dig but I don't have a detector ATM, so I decided to walk over a couple weeks ago and scratch around, kicking myself now for not taking pics, but I found this in what I would imagine to have been the kitchen or spring house. Anyways, this buckle doesn't seem to have a place anywhere on either surface of a broken cross piece or signs of a flat spot from where a "clasp?" would have been. Let me know if this area would be worth a further look as well please!

All I know is that it is made from brass

It's hard to say, most of those common buckle types are just a best guess based on where you find them.
