I know this isn’t exactly a “todays find” but I believe it is worth sharing. Two friends and I recently went on a 5 day dig traveling from site to site that we researched. By the end of the hunt it all paid off. Some of you have seen my other recent finds from the hunt such as the 21st regiment of foot rev war cartridge box badge and counterfeit 8 reale. In this post I wanted to share our group finds and in particular a few finds that one of my friends had made. The first being an amazing 2-4,000 year old copper culture “Celt”. When my friend dug it we didn’t quite sure what to make of it at first. We saw the edge was man made and knew we had to investigate more. When we saw it was a copper culture item we were just floored but also we couldn’t believe that something so old was even possible to find! The copper Celt was just about a foot down in the natural soil layer. One of the other amazing finds he made at a different site was a “royal battalion of Canadian volunteers” belt plate which dates from 1795-1802. Formed due to border hostilities between the u.s. and Canada. Also at that site he managed a 77th regiment of foot pewter button which was really bizarre because the 77th was never event sent over. It’s possible it was from a soldier who was transferred to another unit?? Anyone have any ideas? Also at that site he got a great 1812 NY militia button. A few other sites produced a wide array of coppers, some early American silvers and a nice assortment of Spanish silvers. Happy hunting to all! Looking forward to the next great hunt! hunt1.jpg hunt2.jpg

WoW! Nice finds for sure. That copper is very interesting too. An acquaintance found a copper axe in a lake in VT; I believe it is in a museum there now.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Copper was used sparingly by all time periods of Indians. The Old Copper Culture centered around the Great Lakes however, dates back at least 7000 yrs. A rare find for sure. Gary

Man what an epic hunt! Congratulations :icon_thumright:

Great stuff. That 77th plate is probably War of 1812 period. The plates were much plainer during the Revolutionary War time frame.
