Hello all,

I found this button on Belle Isle last year. I know nothing about it, but wondering if anyone can help. There appears to be a crown on the top. Some kind of plant or flower on the east, Maybe a boat on the South, and maybe a warrior with shield and spears on the West side of it. There are some weird symbols around the outer edge that I have never seen before as well.

Belle Isle is about a 1,000 acre island off the coast of Detroit. I believe that French occupied it during the War of 1812 or something like that. I know that the City of Detroit bought it during the late 1800's and it has been a park ever since. Just wondering if anyone has seen something like this before.

Looks Like A Golf Theme, Maybe A Blazer Or Sport Coat Button. trk5capt...

Trk5capt nailed it! Modern (20th century) golfing motif "blazer" button. The plant/flower is a thistle, a symbol of Scotland, where golf originated. The marks on the border may just be gibberish added to give the button an antique look; a lot of blazer buttons have borders with Latin or, very often, pseudo-Latin mottoes.

I've hunted Belle Isle and it is great for old coins and items. However you almost need a buddy with a AK-47 to watch your back. Watch it in the woods near the canels cause lots of homeless hunker down there. I've got photos of hundreds of canoes afloat in the canels when Belle Isle was a hot spot to picnic and swim.

Good find, I don't know what it is.

I haven't been to Belle Isle in years, I don't even live in the States anymore, but I used to go there when I was a kid. There used to be a popular night club there in the 1930s I think. The old Marina looks like a good place to hunt, but all you'll probably find in the park today are crack pipes.
