Bell or candle snuffer, but has a screw hook. Found it on once was an old farm/home . Thanks for looking

When i was a kid some of the stores would have a bell hanging on the door, to tell them a customer came in .
Could the clapper have hung from the end of the threads of the hook ?
anyways that my guess .

I was thinking snuffer at first, but after looking at them, I think an antique shop keeper bell, is much closer. The hook would attach to a spring wire or bracket that the bell would hang off of. I think its in the right direction. Has anyone seen the ringer to bell screwed in, like in this case? Is that to change the tone? Age? Thanks again!
