found in a field, along a river bank, in northwest ohio metal detecting, anyone have any idea's? thanks. located in an area known for 1812 activity as well as thought to be along waynes trace on his path to the battle of fallen timbers, it is concaved in shape a lot like a finger nail., no shank on the back no inscriptions

I think (swag) it's an escutcheon, a thumb piece decoration off a rifle, musket or pistol. There were some very fancy one over the years. I include some pictures to show what I'm talking about. The fact that your find is curved to fit the wrist or pistol stock enforces my idea.
