Re: Before and After.

I love Before and After pics. But what would be really helpful is if posters would add a brief description of their cleaning/restoration techniques. This way I could compare what I am trying to clean with what results I am expecting and see if there is anything similar.

If would even be great to see what doesn't work.

Re: Before and After.

I posted a before and after Topic over in the Cleaning and Preservation forum. I posted it on December 5th, as of this time it has only had 21 views and no replies. I though I would get some feed back, constructive criticism, tips or kudos you know. See for yourself, here’s the link, http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,59766.0.html

I last picture is the after shot, after being tumbled in aquarium gravel, ammonia, dish shop and water solution. It’s nothing like yours. I hope you don't mind me posting these pictures in your topic.

Re: Before and After.

WoW! What a difference! That came out looking GREAT EW!
Sorry to say that there are so many different forums here that I don't get to. :P I'm gonna have to look around some more! No tellin what I am missing! :D

Nana :)

Re: Before and After.

Cleaned up nice! IMO, I like the uncleaned picture, it looks more rustic. ;D

Re: Before and After.

That's EXACTLY what this site is missin'. Bring on the before and afters!

Excellent Idea!

I also agree with the comments about sharing which preservation techniques are used.

Re: Before and After.

Thanks for all the posts. I think that Cleaning & Preservation Forum is a great site for learning the techniques of preparing your finds, but before and after would be a site that would cut out all the process and just let as see the results.

Cleaned up nicely! Would be a good idea to have a before and after forum. HH, Mike

I think it would be a good idea to have all exceptional/expensive finds posted the way they looked when they came out of the ground. I’m not saying this happens, but anyone can post an expensive find that they really didn’t dig. That would give much more integrity to a find in my opinion.

I don't know if it's me or what. But when I see a cleaned expensive find with no evidence of it being in the ground, I always wonder if it’s a genuine find that was dug or what.

Nice clean up jobs guys.

I always do a before and after shot. Not only does in justify my finds but it looks really cool. I have so many before and afters on my desk top it's rediculous.

That's a wonderful idea!

Both keys and the pin really came out nice. I'd love to learn some safe cleaning techniques.

Very inspiring.

Before and After photos of a Civil War Sword Belt Plate (See the thread "How Buckleboy Got His Name" in the Best Finds category for more info).

Method: I used just a soft toothbrush and warm water.

I LOVE the sword belt plate.. It has to be one of my favorite buckles. Nice that you found one with a stamped wreath.. Mine had the applied.. and it is no longer there.

Thank you, gmu. Yep. Those darn silver wreaths never did stay attached too well. They looked cool though!

Best of Luck,

Buckleboy
