Ind Brew Co. D. A. T. 5¢ Amer. B. (brewing) (millvale, Pa. ) ( (r - 6)

This at least gives you a region...not sure how they arrived at that conclusion.

I saw a few similar ones with different stamps in the middle, not sure what that means exactly.

Thx for the links guys! Looks like this was from the American Brewery, part of the Independent Brewing Company, that went out of business when Prohibition started in 1920. I wonder if the J.B.C. stamp in the center was for a local bar? Or J.B.C. was a local company that paid their employees in beer? Sounds like a good idea...

the initials may have been the beer & token supplier

I wouldn't be surprised if they were placed in Slot Machines.

Quarter Size ?

the Initials may have been the slot machine Supplier, Or distributor
Responsible for payback to the bar.

I'm more inclined to Believe First Nat'l & Amer.B. are bank names

You have yourself a real treasure there. Makes me wonder what "brand(s)" of beer they made. Darn it, now I'm thirsty!

Found this list of breweries under Ind. Brew Co. lists both First National and American as breweries in this conglomerate.

Yes, quarter size, but thinner range up like a nickel. Slot machines in bars in PA... I actually knew a guy who operated/managed these. He left a great Fortune 500 company to be the "Collector" and go from bar to bar. He could not pass up the money, wonder what ever happened to him.

Your token is listed in Aqua's Pennsylvania Merchant Tokens with a number of similar ones from Millvale. I would presume that J. B. C. was the operator of one of the company's retail outlets. Amer. B. is an abbreviation for "American Beer" which is spelled out on some of the other Millvale tokens.
