Beauty and the Beast... I'm Not Talking Disney!

Had to work over the weekend. It's good to be your own boss though. I just started later! Managed a few good sales including one hoarder/collector type estate sale put on by the son of the old man. Anyway, let's start with the beauty. I purchased this Zuni Squash Blossom necklace from the same lady that I got the Baccarat and bracelet from last week. She mentioned it last week and it was on the way to the job. I did pay a bit for it though. Here's the necklace-

I bought this WW2 Army uniform pants and jacket at the same sale, it was issued/named. More research needed as to value. Probably not much. I paid $25 for it-

Now for the Beast! I don't know what this is made of. I can't find anymore like it. It is probably a modern replica but it's not something you'll see everyday. It's a cup, in the form of a Ram's head. More research needed. I paid $10 for it, just for the curiosity factor involved. Came from the estate sale. Very cool piece-

Not pictured- I also found a couple pieces pieces of Blenko glass, one piece of hand painted Fenton, a Dr Pepper grenade bottle, a Nambe vase, a copy of Rockwood and Green's Fractures in Adults (Med. book, look it up), some encased cents (no wheats),a few pinbacks, a couple perfumes, a glass portable display case, the kind you display your small valuables in at a show or flea market, and i'm sure there are a few things I left out.

I also found a cool looking copper mixed metals arts & crafts era vase and an unknown patch that I will be posting on it's own. The vase in this forum and the patch in the what is it forum.

Thanks for looking.

Sorry you've been sick, hope you feel better. I found another one of the Rams head cups. I figured it was a repro but it still sold for $46.00 so $10 wasn't bad. Vtg Water Buffalo Rhyton Sculpture Figurine Alva Museum Replicas | eBay
Nice finds. Necklace is a killer! I was going to ask you if the ram had a hole in the top or bottom of it's head...saw some similar pieces that had a stick or rod in the hole and the item was a candle or lamp snuffer. Sure would have been nice if it were authentic roman or whatever. Thanks for showing us the goods!

Dig,
I love the uniform!!!!! Absolutely cool!!!!

What is a Dr Pepper grenade bottle? Can you post a pic?

That's good picking. I'm guessing you probably know about jewelers rouge. Makes polishing a lot easier...

Here's a couple more of the items, Blenko Chartreuse ivy vase, Fenton pink iridized hat and the blue paneled pinched decanter with the flame stopper, I believe is made by Rainbow Glass, not Blenko, also hand blown. These are $1 items, .50 for the dp bottle.

The uniform is a first class private, Army Transportation Corp. I guess. It has the honorable discharge emblem on it too. The Dr. Pepper grenade... It's a 6 oz. bottle that was only made for 2 years. It held the same amount as a 6 oz. Coke but because the bottle didn't have a neck so it made it look a lot smaller. People didn't like it because they thought they were getting gyped. The picture makes it look rougher than it is. It'll clean up okay. I think it might fit in my tumbler if not. lol Here's the pic-

No, I really, really, don't like cleaning silver. Lol Thanks for the tip

SCORED...can we see the back of the squash blossom?
Sure, but I can't hardly make it out, maybe you can. It looks like WUBOTHU maybe with some initials or something to either side, with Zuni NM under it. Lady said she bought it in Utah about 30 or so years ago. This is the best I could get it. I don't have any books on Southwestern or Zuni jewelry makers. Here is the signature-

A reference source for the necklace.

Digg, I know I rarely talk on here. Look for hannabisbrett on ebay. His father was the first jobber for native american jewelry makers. He was the one most responsible for getting them into jewelry stores and off the side of the road. He was also the one responsible for the changes that differentiated between old pawn and signed pieces. Brett probably knows more about native american pieces than anyone. I've told him about treasurenet before and told him about you guys. Maybe he can shed light on the value, name, and history on that necklace.

The blue piece looks classic Blenko to me in color & shape, seems like most Rainbow pieces I see are usually crackle glass.

If you hate polishing silver do you ever use the salt, baking soda, aluminum foil with boiling water method for polishing silver? Saves so much elbow grease & instead of polishing the tarnish away which is actually polishing silver away you are converting the tarnish back to silver. Some tarnished silver pieces turn back to silver in seconds others need some time to soak & then still need polishing up some afterwards. It's the only way to clean or polish silver in my book. That Dr. Pepper bottle is an oddity & the jade necklace is nice!

Thanks I found him, I'll see if he can shed some light as to the maker etc.

Thanks. It may be Blenko. I just couldn't find that exact piece in none of their catalogs and I saw this which could be wrong- Rainbow Blue Optic Panel Pinch Decanter w/Flame Stopper The only way I clean silver is the way you described.

I don't see a label confirming it though. I'd rather it be Blenko. lol Now here is a Rainbow decanter with the label but it doesn't look pinched, I think it is an optic panel design though, at least the 3rd pic looks like it may be. This is a large one- Vintage Rainbow Glass Decanter Blue 16 5/8" Tall Mint!!

I think the jury is still out on this one.

I dunno but after the links you provided I'd have to call it Rainbow unless I found out for sure otherwise.

I found the cousin to that Blenko ivy vase in your pix. Found it in the bottom of a box I just unpacked. It's amberina & not a small piece, glows nicely under blacklight tho it doesn't show up well in pictures. No label but I'm sure its Blenko. Looks very close to the same design as your ivy vase.

The maker of the squash blossom is most likely "Weebothee". There are a few Zuni artists with that last name. "Lee" is the only one that starts with "L" that I found on my quick search. I believe the initials in front are "L/L/". Lee's wife was Mary and they worked together.
Art of the Zuni: Lee and Mary Weebothee

Beautiful necklace and bracelet!

Thank you 2MN I believe you nailed it.:hello2:

Nice. I recognize that piece. It's listed in the same catalog as the Ivy Vase that I have. 1951, yours is #384 water bottle in Tangerine.

It's either clay pottery or a synthetic resin, it's hard to tell without damaging it.
