Finally got a real nice day to hunt. Got in a couple of hours at the old church I have been searching for the past 10 months. Found a real nice 1903 Indian penny and a near perfect musket ball. The hill I was searching was the site of a skirmish between the Americans and the British during the revolution.

Nice finds. Hows the ground? Everyone I hear from in PA tells me it's frozen.

Most of the area is still snow covered and frozen solid. I was able to search a hillside the the sun has melted the snow. Even there I had to get trough a couple of inches do frozen ground to get to my finds.

I had such a case of cabin fever, I couldn't take it any longer yesterday. I noticed the line between a cornfield and the woods surrounding part of it had been barren of snow for about a week now. I found the ground was thawed to a depth of 1/2 inch at most in the barren spots and if I raked the slushy snow aside, you could see the frost still on top of the ground. The snow is insulating the ice so it will take at least a couple more weeks of warm weather probably to melt the 3 or 4 inches of snow that's left and then the frost under that. I hope I can keep my sanity until then.

Great penny and musket ball! I know exactly what you guys are talking about. The only unfrozen options here in MA are the woods or the beach. A couple more weeks ... Just a couple more weeks...

That is just a beautiful penny!

Nice indian and Ball
