My digging partner and I have been hitting some privies in a gold rush town nearby. Since last summer we have dug approximately 8 holes on this lot. Last weekend, after chipping through 2 feet of compacted gravel, we probed into another pit, which we hoped would be the earliest hole. After several pontiled shards and countless boulders we hit a layer which contained an early spice, pontiled med, early Florida Water and a pickle. After moving a few more large rocks for my digging buddy I had to go home for some family time. He continued digging and soon sent me a pic of a square base extending down among more rocks. He later told me everything was broken. Well... this weekend he surprised me with the beautiful Schnapps. The square base seen in the pic was actually a mint Schnapps. He was planning to save it for my birthday, but July was just too far away. How it survived among the rocks is beyond me. A nice gesture and a beautiful 1860s bottle. Thanks for looking.

Gorgeous condition! Glass and rocks usually don't mix to well. Great find!

that bottle is too cool. are you going by maps? How sure are of your spot when you go digging 2 foot of compacted gravel + rocks to get to the goods? I spell that labor intensive. LOL

Beautiful bottle Evan! Sounds like you're getting into digging shape for DIV. See you in a couple weeks. We will find glass!!

Great looking bottle.that'll make and awesome display.

She's gorgeous, congrats!!!

Very nice case bottle. They usually held gin. Can't say I've ever seen a schnapps before. The gin was very popular in mining towns and on the slave coasts of Africa.

Very nice! With all those rocks I would have expected half a bottle to pull from the dirt. I wish those old timers would have just filled those privies in with some ashes. In my area it seems like they saved the largest, most jagged rocks and iron stove parts to throw in that outhouse when it was time to fill it in.

Happy early birthday Evan. That's quite a nice gift, and will look great in your collection. Hope you guys can get out soon and dig some more.
