these were bound at different sites, both in WV just before the cold and snow set in! the buckle was found at a cellar hole site- noone seems to know how far back it dates, but it has only been a stone foundation as long as my uncle in his 80's can remember. i think it may be silver. it rang "overload" on my DFX in silver range. my dad says he thinks perhaps there were stones at one time where the circle indents are. the other item was found near a home site that dates back to at least early 1900's but perhaps earlier, i did find the same day there an IH that was 188_, date unable to be read. the item in question appears to be brass, thanks for any help offered!

I'm not sure if it was actually a buckle or pin made to look like a buckle. I would leat toward it being a pin though as it looks like the shrt bar is attached to the other. Also it looks like solder on the short bar and the left side in the pic of the back. It more than likely did have stones in it. The other piece looks like it might be broken at the bottom. It looks like it went on a necklace or bracelet and may have had a picture or coin it it.

thank you, yank for the quick reply! you are right, the short bar is soldered at both points, i didn't think about it being a pin, but that makes sense. the other item, i agree, does indeed look broken off at first glance, but on closer inspection it seems to be rounded off at the ends so that it looks that it is in original shape.

i'm going to mark this "solved," but not absolutely certain of the buckle-looking object being a pin. it sounds reasonable, but i'm unsure as to how the thinner bar played into it- seems that it would be visible on top of the article of clothing. maybe a hair ornament somehow?

Mike is right on the money with the Seal Fob.

The other item is an immitation buckle used on a ladies sash.
