bean field find. Not a clue how to "title" it.......

Dug this in a farm field in southeastern Kansas. The area we're working had alot of activity from the late 1800's until just after the turn. Thus far, we've unearthed 20 or so coins ranging from 1860 to 1909. Other than the coinage, very few items of interest found.
In the field 500' north of this area, we've unearthed a small handful of CW era bullets.
This read an eratic VDI of +04 to +12 on my MXT. It's just shy of 1 1/2" long. A 1/16th wide at the narrow, and a wide 1/8th at the other. The patina is slightly more green, in the low spots, than the pics suggest. Not sure on metal composition. Low grade brass possibly? When I drop it on the kitchen counter, it makes a "tinging" sound much like dropping the clad quarter in the pic, only softer in tone. (at least that's what my wife describes it as:-)
Initial thoughts were one of those small novelty ball point pens I recall seeing. However, the patina, and the age of the other finds in the area, suggests older. Just ornate enough to spark my curiosity.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jules

Looks like it`s knurled for a thumb? Maybe to turn a light on. Just my 2 cents.
Cool brass find though.

I like the knurled idea. Seems it was made for turning something.....

It definitely has that look. Smaller than what I've seen though.

Buttonhook Handle or Manicure Tool Handle or Screwdriver Handle? I guess we are sure it is a handle of some sort, just got to agree which one. Can't ID it for sure but I believe it may be one of these.

Looks a handle from an early makeup brush. They were made with some type of hair. Tony

Looks like a broken handle off of a double edged razor. There were lots of variations over the years.

EXACTLY, what I was thinking. I have found 1920's ones very similar.

How about a handle from a shaving brush? Would have had hairs banded to the handle with string like a paintbrush of that era. :icon_study:

I'm liking the idea of a makeup applicator. I think it's too small to be a handle to a razor or shaving brush. The small end is only 1/16 of an inch in diameter.

Thanks for all the suggestions thus far......

Jules
