Beaches In Washington State

Some state parks are off limits, the rest are by permit only. Most county, city, and general public beaches are not a problem. But for the most part you are good to go. Most coastal beaches are open just stay out of the dunes.

Just out of curiosity, why stay out of the dunes?
First day ever hitting the dunes I was stopped by an officer. Was told the dunes are off limits. Something to do with them being a sanctuary. Your not even supposed to walk off the paths. He was cool about it, so I didn't question. He also said something about erosion. I know there are some places where the dunes are open to all activities, but for the most part they are off limits for whatever reason. I never had a reason to press my luck thats all.

Oh ya, the department of fish and Wildlife. Now that is, "Wild life."

There is a bird that nest in the open dunes about the high water line. The state in it's infinite wisdom planted a grass species from Califonia(?) in the dunes to control the wind erosion. The grass takes over every foot of space it can so fast that it limits the nesting spaces for these birds.

Can't our state learn to leave well enough alone and let mother nature do it's part to restore itself. We have enough trasplants from other states without importing weeds.
