Beach Scoop Lanyards

I have attached ropes to my scoop in the past, but this is dangerous in the oceans where there are strong currents and under tows to use the scoop to pull you out to deep water. It is much easier to hold it in your hand where it is always ready. Another option is to modify a carpenter's hammer holder to hold the scoop basket. This way the handle is the only thing being pulled around by the surf.

Here is a holder that Max made and it works like a charm. Thanks for the pix Max.

I had a friend put grommet holes in my pouch belt (finds bag) and just took a bungee cord. Used some small hog type rings and made a loop that I put over the end of the handle and the other end a stainless clip to the hole on my quick release belt.

I wear my scoop on my head. It protects me from dive bombing pelicans and the handle acts like a rudder as I move through the water! One time....I was looking all over for my scoop and then I realized....Oh man...I am wearing it. Did I feel really stupid!

Good one Electro. Wearing it will also have the mothers calling their kids away from you so you can hunt in peace.

I hunt solo and in areas where no one is withen miles of me, so i go a lil bit overkill.
I have a harness that holds my excal electronics, a straight shaft so all i swing is the coil, my straight shaft has a lanyard to the harness so i can let go of it, the scoop also has a lanyard attached to the harness, and also i use a boat anchor dug into the beach with an attached rope that hooks to my harness(lifeline) also, cause some areas have deep drop offs and strong currents.

Now this may sound bulky but it is streamlined and easy to use, plus i can let go of everything in an emergency to pull myself out with the lifeline if needed. Never lost a scoop, can let go of the straight shaft, and most importantly safe.

That made me laugh out loud!

Drag that scoop behind you on the beach. I have found that if you drag it behind you, it will mark in the sand where you have been. No sense wasting time looking where you already have looked. After a few hours of detecting in dry sand, I can trace where I have been and not waste valuable detecting time.

In the water I have found that dragging is also the best way but I hate getting the extra rope all tangled up with the headphone wire and also the rope for the detector in case I drop it. I was thinking that maybe a little float attached to the detector may be a better option. The float could still be attached to the detector but it would not get too much in the way in the water.

I have a small loop of rope through the handle that I slip my wrist into and I drag it behind me, well this isn't working anymore as I am now aware this is causing tennis elbow so now I gotta come up with a new solution as well.

I wouldn't think that would be the safest either

i use one on my excal 2 and one on my sand scoop you can see the eye bolt on the end of the handle i use a bungy cord, YES we do hunt in the cold.

That's what I'm looking for....nice. Where did you get the eye bolt? Home Depot?

Thanks

home depot or lowe's..be sure and get the 3" long SS eyebolt so you can reach inside the grip with long pliers and double nut it from inside so it wont come loose.and use washers in and out . i put a large split ring on my belt and clip the scoop to it and drag it behind me..also while you have the bike grip off, fill the handle with pipe insolation foam rubber (at lowe's) so it will float up if you let go of it.

Have you ever had a problem with the plastic grip splitting or cracking at the edge of the washers?

By the way....Awsome, it works great.....

When you get a target don't you have to unhook it everytime? I hit to many targets most of the time and that would be more of a pain to keep reaching around un hooking it than throwing it over my shoulder?

I never unhook mine, it isn't necessary. dragging it behind marks where you have been. If you use a PI or a hot detector( excal with a WOT) with a large coil it is necessary to keep it away from the coil.
