I have been beach hunting with the MXT on the Atlantic coast of Florida and here on the Gulf Shores of Alabama. With battery at full, the MXT will hit very deep targets. I have found gold earings, a silver/ruby ring, and many clad coins on both coasts. The secret is this: The MXT is an auto balance machine. When you work the dry sand it will be like working a tot lot at any public school. However, when going from dry sand to wet sand and then sea water, one will experience chatter. This chatter can be eliminated completely by pumping the coil over wet sand first to allow it to balance and then do the same under water with coil submerged. The MXT is a fantastic beach hunting machine and remember to put the mode switch on SALT.

Another slick trick while hunting the beach. When you go on wet sand or salt water, switch the mode switch to prospecting mode, turn the SAT all the way up and then you can see if the target is iron or not iron. In prospecting mode with the SAT all the way up you will get no chatter at all. It is like hunting a mineralized patch looking for nuggets out west.

When I hit the beach with my MXT, I lock the GB after I balance. I get fantastic results, but do have to re balance changing locations.
I hit a stud gold earring(small) at 10 inches in the low tide sand. The MXT is very stable if you don't go too high on the gain.
