I heard it is illegal to metal detect in that country. Punishment is death. Everything above and below the ground belongs to the King. Good luck.

Yeah, you'd be wrong. Don't believe everything you "heard".

Well if enough people belive that then your detecting should be Great.

I would call that a good luck token... and a great find.

The style reminds me of the old 1/2 & 1/4 Anna coins from India. But there are no words on it so I think... not a coin...

And there are lots of Indians here in Dubai so that would make sense. I honestly thought it was a washer before I washed it off and saw the decorative surface. I'm thinking some sort of medallion?

Searched a little more... Check this out...

Look how similar the design is to the 1920 Rupee.

looks very similar to Malay Peninsula coins from the late 1800's, but I can not find the exact same one like yours with the half-moon unless the hole was punched out in the wrong spot.

This is a King George V Rupee. Coins from his era (1910 - 1936) are the only ones I see with the chrysanthemum at the bottom.

Maybe a counterfeit attempt? Special war-time issue? Great depression issue?

The pattern is too similar to be a coincidence. It has to be relate to Rupee coins somehow.

Is your coin silver or copper?

If you search "George V counterfeit rupee" you'll see some fakes from the era. But they all have his image on the obverse...

Also, what's the size and weight?

It came up as a 16-17 on my Equinox so I don't think it's silver. Copper possibly. I didn't bring my scale here to Dubai, unfortunately. Here is a photo to gain some perspective.

So... like 24mm? That's the size of a 1/2 Rupee.

I think 16 - 17 puts it in the brass range for the Equinox. I've dug shotgun brass in that range on my 600 (up to 19 - 20).

The first year for that style 1/2 Rupee reverse was 1911. I believe they made them like that until 1936. But they were silver coins.

Quite a mystery...
